If you were asked to write a list of everything you worried about in the last week, would it be a long list? Worry is all too common a feeling, and it can sprout up for all kinds of reasons: health, finances, family problems, relationships, and so much more.

The Bible has a lot of verses on fear and worry and how to loosen their grip on your life. Instead of choking yourself out trying to control what can’t be controlled, encourage yourself and restore your peace of mind with these verses:

14 Bible verses on fear & worry

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” | Isaiah 41:10

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” | 1 Peter 5:7

“When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.” | Psalm 94:19

“This is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life – whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?” | Matthew 6:25

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” | Philippians 4:6

“I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.” | Psalm 34:4

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” | Matthew 6:33

“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” | Psalm 46:1

“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you more valuable to him than they are?” | Matthew 6:26

“I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” | John 14:27

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.” | 2 Thessalonians 3:16

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” | Matthew 6:34

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” | Proverbs 3:5-6

“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” | Matthew 11:28-30

Don’t let worry rule your life

Worry is a normal human experience, and you’re not a bad Christian for struggling with worries from time to time – but don’t let worry take hold of your life! In addition to these Bible verses on fear and worry, here are two other powerful tools you can use to turn down the volume on worry:

  • Prayer. Talking to God about what you’re worried about can have a surprisingly strong effect on your worries and fears. If you want, you can even send us a prayer request so we can pray with you!
  • Talk therapy. Being a Christian doesn’t disqualify you from seeking out practical help like mental health counseling. If your worries are all-consuming and affecting your quality of life, it may be time to talk to a professional. Not sure where to start? Contact us for a list of trusted counselors near you!

As Pastor Rick Warren once said, “There are two days you should never worry about: yesterday and tomorrow.” We hope these Bible verses will help you focus on the present and calm your worries with the reminder that God is in control.
