Easter is all about hope, joy, and new life, and it’s the perfect time to start traditions that help point your kids to Jesus. Whether you’re up for something creative, reflective, or just plain fun, here are 9 simple ways to celebrate Easter with your kids this year.
1. Trail to Easter Baskets
Want to make Easter morning a little more exciting? Set up a trail of clues leading your kids to their Easter baskets. You can use jelly beans, small toys, or handwritten notes to guide them along the way. As they follow the trail, take a moment to talk about how Jesus leads us in life – and how his resurrection changes everything.
2. Sidewalk Art
Grab some sidewalk chalk and let your kids go wild decorating the driveway with messages of hope. Think "Jesus is Risen!" or "Easter = New Life!" – whatever helps them share the joy of Easter. (You can even draw out an invitation to come to Easter at LCBC!) It’s a simple, fun way to celebrate while getting your kids out in the fresh air and spreading a little hope to your neighbors.
3. Egg Tapping Contest
This one’s easy and brings out a little friendly competition! Everyone gets a hard-boiled egg, then each person takes turns tapping them together. The last egg left uncracked wins – plus everyone gets a healthy snack afterward!
4. Sunrise Breakfast & Worship
There’s something special about starting Easter before the world wakes up. Get up early, watch the sunrise, and share a simple breakfast together. You can read Luke 24, talk about the Easter story, and maybe even play some worship music in the background. It’s a small way to start the day with gratitude (before the sugar rush kicks in!).
5. Natural Egg Dyeing
Skip the artificial dye this year and try coloring eggs with natural ingredients like beets (for red), turmeric (for yellow), or spinach (for green). Not only is it fun and hands-on, but it’s also a great way to talk about how God’s creation is full of beauty and color.
6. Build a 'Tomb' With Legos or Blocks
If your kids love building, challenge them to make the empty tomb where Jesus was laid using Legos, blocks, or even Play-Doh. Once it’s built, read Matthew 28:1-10 and talk about why the tomb was empty. It’s a hands-on way to help them understand the miraculous story!
7. Acts of Kindness Challenge
Easter isn’t just about celebrating – it’s about sharing love and kindness. Challenge your kids to come up with small ways to make someone’s day better. Here are some ideas:
- Write a kind note to a friend or neighbor and invite them to Easter at LCBC.
- Donate an Easter basket to a family in need.
- Bake cookies for a teacher, coach, or someone who could use a little encouragement.
- Pray together for someone who’s having a tough time.
Little acts of kindness go a long way, and they help kids see Easter as a time to spread hope to others.
8. Bake Resurrection Rolls Together
This one’s a fun (and delicious) way to teach kids about the resurrection. Bake resurrection rolls! You wrap a marshmallow in crescent roll dough and bake it. When you take a bite you’ll see that the marshmallow is gone, leaving an empty space inside – just like the empty tomb! As you eat, talk about what that means: Jesus is alive, and that changes everything. Here’s a recipe to try!
9. Celebrate Easter at LCBC!
The best way to celebrate Easter? Experience it together. Easter is more than a holiday. It’s a reminder that hope is real, that Jesus is alive, and that his love changes everything.
