Bible Reading / 21 Prayers to Grow Closer to God

Day 16 | A Prayer for Protection

Read:

David prayed this prayer in one of the darkest times in his life. He was facing very real threats. He was running from his own son, betrayed by people he trusted, and surrounded by those who wanted him gone. Nothing, no one, was safe.

Even there, David prayed with confidence—not in himself, but in God. David didn’t deny the danger or try to pretend the threats against him weren’t real. He trusted and believed God would stand between him and what was trying to break him.

Most of us want protection before the pressure hits. But God's protection is more like a shield—it doesn’t stop arrows; it absorbs the impact. David trusted God while the pressure was closing in, before he saw any sign that the situation would change. His example reminds us that peace and strength aren’t found in circumstances—they’re found in the One who holds us.

Reflect: Where do you feel surrounded and need God’s protection most?

Pray: God, be my shield. I feel pressure from every direction, but I trust that you’re standing between me and the things that threaten my peace. Lift my head when I feel weighed down. Protect my heart, my mind, and my hope. You are my defender. Amen.
