Jesus teaches us to begin prayer with worship. When you pray, “May your name be kept holy,” you’re not boosting God’s ego. You’re resetting your perspective by reminding yourself who he is.
God isn’t one piece of your life. He is the foundation of it. To keep his name holy means you treat him as weighty and worthy, not just in what you say, but in how you live.
In life, distraction is constant. Everything competes for your attention and urgency. This line slows you down and re-centers you. It reminds you that you are not the center. You’re still you and your life still matters, but your problems look different in the presence of something vast and steady. Beginning with awe reshapes everything that follows.
Reflect: Have you been treating God casually instead of reverently?
Pray: God, you are holy and set apart. Reset my perspective and help me see you clearly today. Shape my words, my decisions, and my priorities so they reflect who you are. You deserve my attention and my honor. Amen.
