Bible Reading / 21 Prayers to Grow Closer to God

Day 19 | A Prayer for Peace

Read:

Most of us know the nights when sleep feels impossible. Our minds race, hearts tighten, and we replay every conversation or imagine every worst-case scenario. Peace feels out of reach, and our problems feel like monsters waiting to pounce the second we let our guard down.

Imagine you had a guard standing watch through the night against those monsters. You’re finally able to rest because they’re staying awake. That’s the kind of trust David leaned on. Even in seasons of pressure, uncertainty, and opposition, he could lie down with confidence because he believed God was watching over him.

David didn’t pray for life to settle down when things got hard. He prayed for the assurance that God held his life. David found peace not from his circumstances changing, but from trusting that God would never leave him.

This kind of peace doesn’t come from control. When we let go of what we cannot carry and trust God to guard us, rest becomes possible—even in the middle of the storm.

Reflect: What burden is keeping you from finding true peace?

Pray: God, I don’t want to keep carrying what I cannot control. I choose to trust you. Calm my mind, settle my spirit, and help me rest in the confidence that you are watching over me and that I am safe in your care. Amen.
